Colin Brass Retires

Colin Brass recently announced his retirement after working with WJM for almost 40 years. Graham Bell, Partner at WJM and longstanding colleague of Colin, has written a few words to mark the occasion.
I worked with Colin for 35 years, so it’s fair to say he has been a constant presence throughout my working life. Colin is a phenomenally hard-working man. No task is too big for any client, and no one can beat his tenacity and dedication when it comes to delivering a good result.
During his time at WJM, Colin worked in commercial conveyancing, and if any of his clients ever needed a transaction completed by a certain day, you could guarantee Colin would get it done. He would do everything he could to make things happen for his clients.
I often think of Colin as “Mr Common Sense” himself. Always calm in the face of a storm, Colin has a fantastic way of remaining balanced and measured no matter what is happening around him, making him an excellent person to turn to when in need of guidance.
He’s a great problem solver and always manages to take a step back, think about the bigger picture, and work out how to get from A to B without any drama. He believes in finding the straight track to a solution, like True North in a compass.
These traits are absolutely essential in any fast-paced working environment so he will be sorely missed by all of us at WJM.
I was Managing Partner of the firm for a while, and during this time, Colin was Chairman. This is when I truly got to see how skilled he was at gauging the mood of others and letting them express their views. He always made sure other people’s voices were heard.
I think those who have had the pleasure of working with Colin will have learned a lot from him, particularly when it comes to staying calm, thinking logically, remaining driven at all times, and most importantly - the value of good humoured advice to colleagues.
I’d like to thank Colin for being such an incredible colleague and leader throughout the last 35 years and wish him all the best on his retirement. Colin is a keen golfer so I’m sure he’ll enjoy getting to spend more time on the fairway, looking after his garden, and of course enjoying more time with his loved ones.
