Year of Food & Drink

As 2015 gets properly underway, it's worth noting that this year is the Scottish Year of Food & Drink. Numerous events will be taking place across the country which will put focus on the sector, including demonstrating why, in Scotland, we're renowned for our unrivalled produce.
As the Visit Scotland website puts it, "from Stornoway Black Pudding to Arbroath Smokies, Scotland's food and drink comes from unspoilt habitats and varied weather, which are perfect for producing a wide variety of high quality fresh fruit and vegetables, fish, meat and much more".
Scotland’s food, beverage and leisure sector is growing rapidly and is on target to meet turnover of £16.5bn by 2017, and employing over 20,000 people, according to research by accountants Grant Thornton.
WJM's Leisure & Hospitality team will, as the year progresses, be bringing you loads of interesting news and information about what's happening in this sector.
To keep you going for now, it's worth taking a moment to remember the life and works of the Scottish Bard, Rabbie Burns. He famously referred to one particular and truly unique Scottish product as "Great chieftain o' the pudding-race!", and at this time of year the haggis is definitely in fashion. The image above is from the VisitScotland website, where you can find a fantastic recipe by Jo and James MacSween for your haggis, neeps and tatties meal on Sunday.
