Wright, Johnston & Mackenzie and Irwin Mitchell Celebrate Partnership With Star-studded British Athletics Event

Wright, Johnston & Mackenzie LLP and Irwin Mitchell toasted their successful investment deal together at a special event held at WJM’s Glasgow office.
To celebrate their new partnership, WJM and Irwin Mitchell hosted an evening with British Athletics superstars Callum Hawkins, Jemma Reekie and Maria Lyle.
The Scottish athletes, who made their appearance not long after Reekie won silver in the 800-metres at the World Athletics Indoor Championships at the Emirates Arena last weekend, shared insights into their careers and how they stay at the top of their game.
The event was held in celebration of the completion of a recent investment, which saw WJM join forces with Irwin Mitchell. After recently securing regulatory approval, the law firms are now able to seek growth across the UK and internationally.
Mark Higgins, Managing Partner for Irwin Mitchell in Scotland, said: “We’re passionate about our sporting partnerships, celebrating talent and excellence.
“These top-level athletes represent Scotland and Britain with pride, stiving for excellence and continued improvement – values that deeply resonate with us as we strive to set the standard in our industry.
“As we embark on an Olympic and Paralympic year alongside remarkable athletes like Callum, Jemma and Maria, it also marks a real milestone year for our firms as we endeavour to grow and succeed together.”
During the event, colleagues, clients, friends and families alike mingled as the new dawn for both firms was explained to those in attendance.
The investment sees Irwin Mitchell Partners Bruce Macmillan, Craig Marshall, and Mark Higgins join the newly-formed WJM Management Board as the two firms seek to share best practice and take advantage of opportunities to further grow their businesses.
WJM will continue to operate under that brand in Scotland for the immediate future with Managing Partner Fraser Gillies heading up operations.
Fraser commented: “Since we announced these plans at the end of last year, it’s been an exciting and encouraging journey. I’m sure I speak on behalf of everyone at WJM and our colleagues at Irwin Mitchell when I say we can’t wait to see what the future holds.
“We were honoured to be joined by Scottish athletes Callum Hawkins, Jemma Reekie and Maria Lyle.
“All three are experts in their field and it was fascinating to learn more about what drives them and how they deal with challenges.”
The firms have complementary skills north of the border, with Irwin Mitchell Scotland operating out of Glasgow, predominantly in banking and finance and complex personal injury work, while WJM specialises in corporate, private client, property, and asset management.
Together, the law firms will now provide a full service offering across legal services and financial planning across more than 20 locations in England, Scotland, and Wales. They are also part of international law firm networks spanning 200 jurisdictions.
