WJM Solicitor Awarded 'Gold Standard Accreditation' for Supporting Older and Vulnerable People

A WJM solicitor has received official recognition for her expertise in legal support for older and vulnerable clients, their families and carers.

Nicola McGorm, Associate at Wright, Johnston & Mackenzie LLP, has become a Full Accredited Member of Solicitors for the Elderly (SFE) (now The Association for Lifetime Lawyers) after receiving the Older Client Care in Practice (OCCP) and Older Client Law in Practice (OCLP) awards.

The accreditation from SFE is regarded as the gold standard for solicitors and chartered legal executives specialising in older and vulnerable client law.

Commenting on her achievement, Nicola, who specialises in private client work at WJM, said: "I’m extremely honoured to receive this accreditation from SFE. We have an increasingly ageing population, so it’s more important than ever that we provide the highest possible standard of service for clients who are older and more vulnerable and to be mindful and supportive of their needs.

“We must ensure those clients feel comfortable and that they are treated with the same dignity and respect that we would of others who might not have the same additional needs.

“I’m honoured to have been recognised for this achievement which is testament to my commitment to excellence in my practice."

To achieve accreditation, lawyers are required to undertake assessment to demonstrate solid understanding of the specific needs and considerations required when safeguarding and protecting older clients’ interests.
Fraser Gillies Managing Partner at WJM, expressed his congratulations to Nicola, commenting: "We are immensely proud of Nicola's accomplishment in becoming a Full Accredited Member of SFE.

“Our clients need to have confidence and trust in their advisers and Nicola's recognition as a Full Accredited Member of SFE emphasises our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of expertise in elder law.”

Lakshmi Turner, Chief Executive of SFE, added: “When it comes to planning ahead for later life, getting the right advice is essential. An SFE accredited lawyer is an expert in this area of the law and understands the wider, often sensitive, issues around health, care and family that may need consideration. SFE lawyers understand the issues affecting older and vulnerable clients and follow a strict code of practice with respect and dignity at its heart.
“Ultimately, choosing an SFE lawyer means you’ll be guided through this complex and sensitive area of law and will enable you to lay solid foundations to protect you and your loved ones in later life.”
