WJM and CCW Business Lawyers To Merge

31st October 2018

Wright, Johnston & Mackenzie is further expanding its services in Scotland by merging with CCW Business Lawyers with effect from Monday 3rd December, 2018.

Partners, associates and staff in both practices have welcomed the merger, which will add strength and quality to their existing offerings, particularly in areas such as commercial property and corporate. The new business will trade as Wright, Johnston & Mackenzie LLP.

The move further strengthens the firm’s national footprint, allowing it to better serve the needs of the wider Scottish business and private client communities.

CCW was founded in 2003 by John Clarke and Stephen Cotton with the aim of establishing a niche business services firm run by trusted advisers. It can trace its roots in Fife back some 300 years, and currently has a presence in Edinburgh and Dunfermline.

The merger means that four partners and eight employees from CCW’s offices will be joining WJM. Following recent partner promotions, this brings the total staffing level in the new business to 31 Partners and 60 fee earners across its five offices.

The new business intends to retain and develop the ethos shared by WJM and CCW of providing clients with a highly personal service tailored to their needs.

Fraser Gillies, WJM’s Managing Partner, says: “There is certainly a gap in the market for a firm of this size which is proudly independent and Scottish. We have a very clear vision for ourselves as a leading firm offering unrivalled client service to the parts of the Scottish marketplace we’ve focused on.

“From our very first discussion with CCW it was clear we share similar values including an entrepreneurial outlook, a commitment to excellence in all that we do and the view that long-term, deep client relationships are key to a successful and sustainable practice.”

Other clear synergies in client bases, he adds, were quickly identified in the SME, owner-managed and family business sectors. “Both our firms share a substantial heritage combined with a modern outlook on the delivery of legal services.

“The merger with CCW consolidates our existing Edinburgh practice and gives us a fantastic platform for continued growth. We’re delighted to welcome the partners and their teams to WJM. We now have a truly national footprint, including in the Fife area.”
