WJM’s market leading Renewable Energy team has been strengthened by the appointment of the well-known industry specialist, Alan Simpson, as a Partner. Alan joins the firm from HBJ Gateley and will be based in WJM’s Edinburgh office.

Alan joins the highly respected WJM team at an exciting time. The team has recently secured planning permission on Appeal for over 75 MW of onshore wind capacity and continues to act for a range of clients from large utilities to landowners and community groups. Significant tender wins and panel appointments have added a number of major industry players to the team’s client bank.

Announcing the appointment, Fraser Gillies, who heads WJM’s Renewables team, said, “We are delighted to have attracted someone of Alan’s calibre to join the team. Alan has extensive experience of acting for developers, community groups and landowners across a range of renewables technologies. His excellent reputation is evidenced by his Legal 500 and Chambers rankings. It is an exciting time for WJM’s Renewables team. We have been successful in winning business and helping our clients, old and new, to develop and deliver their renewable energy projects. With Alan in the team, we are looking forward to building on those successes and continuing to grow in the marketplace.”

WJM’s Chief Executive Liam Entwistle said “Renewable energy is one of WJM’s key performance sectors and our focus on putting the client at the centre of our circle of services is paying off. Demand from clients for our renewables services is increasing and, to service that demand, we’ve been delighted to be able to recruit Alan to the team. Our team is already highly regarded and adding Alan’s recognised expertise further strengthens and deepens our offering in the sector.”

Alan Simpson joins other senior hires which the firm has made in recent months, including Alan Bauchop in the firm’s Commercial Property team and Michael Drysdale in the Corporate team. WJM having moved to new, larger, offices in St. Andrew Square in the last few weeks, Liam Entwistle added that “This strategic recruitment, along with our new offices, put us in an excellent position to provide our full range of services to our clients wherever they may be situated, and give us the opportunity for further growth in the city”.
