Irwin Mitchell Scotland Supports CES with Light Up Purple campaign

Irwin Mitchell Scotland and Wright, Johnston & Mackenzie has supported Champions Charity by lighting up their Glasgow offices purple to raise awareness of Cauda Equina Syndrome (CES).
The firms share an office base at St Vincent Plaza in the heart of the city’s IFSD Central Business District.
The charity has launched a nationwide campaign for Cauda Equina Syndrome Awareness Day on October 1st when buildings, landmarks, businesses and homes lit up purple to raise awareness.
CES is a spinal surgical emergency that can lead to lower limb paralysis and loss of bowel, bladder and sexual function if not assessed and treated urgently. Without early interventions, the possible consequences can be devastating.
When CES is suspected, timely recognition, assessment and treatment matters. By lighting up purple, supporters are helping put CES in the spotlight, start conversations and make more people aware of the symptoms that should never be ignored.
Irwin Mitchell and Irwin Mitchell Scotland have both worked in partnership with the charity in the past. Irwin Mitchell Scotland’s Head of Medical Negligence, Darren Deery, said: “Our specialist Medical Negligence team advises on a wide range of complex claims, including delayed and failed spinal surgery. This charity carries out invaluable work for people with Cauda Equina and we are proud to shine a spotlight on its work and champion it.”
Claire Thornber, Founder of Cauda Equina Champions Charity, said: “This year is Cauda Equina awareness days sixth year, so the fact buildings and landmarks across the UK are standing together to shine a light on Cauda Equina Syndrome is absolutely incredible.
“For many people, the first time they hear the words ‘Cauda Equina Syndrome’ is when they or someone they love is being assessed for it. We want to change that. We want people to have heard of CES, understand that there are warning signs that require urgent assessment and know why every hour matters.
“Every purple building represents another community being introduced to Cauda Equina Syndrome. We are incredibly grateful to every council, venue and organisation supporting us this year, and we hope even more landmarks will join the campaign.”
