Get Your Italian Affairs in Order with WJM Expert Mirella Marchini as Scots Celebrate Italian National Day

As Italian Scots celebrate Italian National Day, Wright, Johnston & Mackenzie Partner Mirella Marchini is urging people with estates in Italy to get their affairs in order.

Originally from Genova, Mirella – like the rest of her compatriots – is today celebrating Festa della Repubblica, a national holiday to commemorate the birth of the Italian Republic in 1946.

Mirella, who is the head of WJM’s Dunblane Bartys office, is an Italian Avvocato and Scottish solicitor, and, we believe, the only lawyer in Scotland currently dual-qualified in Italian and Scots Law.

Mirella carried out her legal traineeship in Milan and moved to Scotland in 1996, qualifying as an Italian solicitor and registering with the Law Society (“Ordine degli Avvocati”) of Milan in March 1997. She practised Italian law for a few years in the Edinburgh office of a large Italian firm based in Milan.

She later worked for various Scottish firms, qualifying as a Scottish solicitor in 2006, joining Bartys, a branch of WJM, in July 2022.

Mirella is able to offer advice to clients in Scotland, the rest of the UK and Italy, providing expert counsel on issues in or connected with Italy and Scotland.

These include buying and selling heritable property, inheritance matters, and wills and estates. Mirella’s expertise provides a ‘one-stop shop’ approach that saves clients having to instruct different legal representatives in both Scotland and in Italy.

This generally helps to speed up the process and, because Mirella is fluent in English and a native Italian speaker, nothing is lost in translation.

Mirella said: “As we celebrate our National Day, there is no better time to consider your personal affairs in Italy and if you need legal advice or support.

“Whether it’s dealing with property, wills, inheritance or an estate, my expertise and skillset can help ease the stress of getting your house in order.”

Although Mirella has lived in Scotland for nearly 30 years, she still retains a very strong connection to Italy, especially Genova, her native city, where she still owns a house and likes to spend as much time as she can seeing family and friends.
