Wright Johnston and Mackenzie Solicitors

Crofting

We work with crofters and crofting communities to help them manage their land issues. Crofting purchases and sales, de-crofting and inheritance of crofts, form the specialist part of our work along with everyday land management issues such as access rights, grazing rights and leases.

Crofting and renewable energy projects is a particular specialism of ours, whether you want to generate electricity on your own land or you are in a crofting community which is, or may be, receiving community benefit payments from a generator.

We are on the legal panel for Community Energy Scotland which works with communities to help them establish their own renewable energy generation.

We are experienced in the intricacies of Crofting Law and are members of the Crofting Law Association. The law surrounding crofts has been the subject of some upheaval over the last few years. Change has not stopped and further statutory changes are likely. We’ve worked with crofters and crofting communities through all the statutory changes and are here to help and advise on new legislation.

From our office in Inverness, we’re ideally placed to visit clients across the Crofting Counties. We can also, with sufficient notice, offer services in Gaelic.

If your land is situated within the crofting counties and you have the need for sound practical advice, then contact us.
