SERVICE, EXPERTISE AND EXPERIENCE
Our team of renewable energy lawyers offers something different from our competitors.
At the heart of that offering is our partner led service. Our partners look after our clients from the moment they engage the firm all the way through to completion of their projects, remaining closely involved in the outstanding day-to-day service required to deliver our clients’ goals. As renewable energy lawyers, there is nothing more important to us than looking after our clients.
Of course delivery of those goals and delivery of that service can only be achieved with outstanding individuals. It is led by Andy McFarlane, one of Scotland’s foremost renewable energy lawyers. The partners in our team include Fraser Gillies (our Managing Partner and Head of Planning) Ken Long and Angus Macleod who are all ranked individuals in Chambers and Legal 500. The work the team delivers is also driven by our excellent associates and solicitors.
AT THE HEART OF THE SECTOR
Renewables is a leading sector in our firm’s overall business plan and has been for a long time. We sit in a network of clients, funders, consultants and industry bodies, taking pride in our sector knowledge. As well as putting on our own conferences and seminars, we attend multiple industry events during the year and deliver training to/receive training from our clients.
BREADTH OF OUR TEAM
We have provided advice on all technologies in the renewables sector including onshore wind, battery storage, hydro, offshore wind, tidal, wave, biomass and photovoltaic/solar. Alongside that, we have the in-house specialists to complement our outstanding property, planning and corporate teams. Our clients have had the benefit on major projects of market-leading tax advice from Susan Hoyle and Lizzie Tainsh in relation to environmental issues.
WJM Annual Renewables Seminar
This year WJM’s annual renewables seminar focused on “Driving the Green Recovery”. The session featured the usual much-anticipated round-up of key planning issues and cases over the last year, together with a case study on habitat management and a developer’s view of the current market including grid reform, route to market and hybrid schemes.
The event was chaired by Andy McFarlane, Head of Renewables at WJM. Speakers were David Bell of David Bell Planning Ltd, Finley Becks-Phelps of Fred Olsen, John Boyce from RES, Harry Malyon from Coriolis Energy, Tony Crombie from Ventient Energy and Causeymire landowner Innes Miller.
