WJM Dunblane Make Contribution to Dunblane Cathedral Book

A book detailing the history of Dunblane Cathedral’s stained-glass windows is to be published, partly thanks to the help of WJM Dunblane.

WJM’s office in Dunblane has made a contribution to the Society of Friends of Dunblane Cathedral as they draft a new hardback book on the history of the town’s iconic cathedral and its windows.

Reaffirming the company’s commitment to supporting the area’s economy, WJM Dunblane is lending its backing to the group as they look to shine a light on the cathedral’s history.

To be edited by Ewing Wallace, the book is due to be published later this year and will be titled ‘The Stained Glass of Dunblane Cathedral’.

Bartys has a long history of supporting community initiatives in the local area through sponsorships, fundraising and outreach work.

“The work that has gone into the book means the finished product will be something everyone in Dunblane can be proud of, much like the stained-glass windows of the magnificent cathedral.

Dunblane Cathedral’s stained-glass windows were installed between the 1890s and 1960s and is much admired by all who visit it, including experts in the field of stained-glass history and production.

The Society of Friends of Dunblane Cathedral had previously published a short guide to the windows; however, they are now producing a 100-or-so-page hardback book to detail the history and stories behind the windows.

The book will include the story of the disagreement between the architect of the choir stalls and designer of the windows behind which the stalls partially hid. There will also be the story of the set of windows which were removed in the 1920s to be sent to Africa.
