Managing Absence in the Workplace

This seminar will focus on how to successfully manage workplace absences. We will consider some of the particular difficulties that can arise, including managing disability discrimination risks, performance management/disciplinary processes that result in absence, dealing with malingering employees and when it may become necessary to consider dismissal.

Issues for discussion will include:

• The first steps in absence management and effective return to work meetings
• How to manage employees on long-term sick leave
• Obligations towards disabled employees
• How to manage short-term frequent absences
• Identifying malingering employees and how to effectively deal with them
• How to handle an absence response to a disciplinary/performance improvement procedure
