I was lucky enough to be able to spend three months in India in 2008. It is almost impossible to pick one thing that was the highlight of the trip as I saw and experienced so much. But a moment that particularly sticks in the mind occurred during a dawn foot safari. My guide and I were crouched down behind some bushes transfixed by a family of wild elephants that had just emerged from the trees in front of us. A mother sloth bear and her cubs then chose that moment to come out of the undergrowth 50 yards behind us. For simultaneous excitement and wonder it beat even seeing wild tigers later in the trip.
